Repoet Open the app

Blog simply, from a repository you own.

Repoet is a small writing app for a blog that lives in your GitHub repository. Every post is a Markdown file there, and GitHub Pages turns them into your website. Repoet is just a calm place to write. The repository is the blog.

Start writing

You can write first, and sign in with GitHub when you publish.

Morning run, 10k in 47:12. New shoes worked. The bridge route beats the park route.

The file is the post. The repository is the blog.

What you get

How it works

  1. Continue with GitHub. You need a free GitHub account.
  2. Create your blog’s repository. GitHub copies the Repoet template into your account.
  3. Let Repoet publish to it. Only to that repository, never to all of them.

Then write.

Price

Free while in beta. After that, a one-time payment for each major version, never a subscription. GitHub hosts your blog for free, and Repoet keeps no servers that hold your data.

Why it exists

I wanted to post a line or two from my phone after a run. Everything was a subscription, and the GitHub-based tools weren’t comfortable on a phone. So I built the small tool I wanted, and I’m keeping it small. — Kasparas

If Repoet disappeared tomorrow, your blog would keep working: it’s a normal repository with a normal Eleventy site.

Questions

What can Repoet change on my GitHub account?

Only the repositories you choose, and each must be a Repoet blog. GitHub’s install page lists “Administration”: Repoet needs it to switch on GitHub Pages, and to create another blog when you ask for one. It also covers a repository’s settings and could delete it; Repoet never does.

Are my drafts private?

Yes. They stay on your device until you publish. The blog’s repository itself is public, because GitHub Pages needs that on the free plan.

Can I change how my blog looks?

Yes. The template is plain Eleventy in your repository; edit it like any code. Repoet updates template files only when you ask, and never one you’ve changed.

Does it work on a phone?

It was made for one. Add it to your home screen. An App Store version is planned.

What if I stop using Repoet?

Nothing happens to your blog.
